Launched the Armenian first “Open Game” Championship of Developers of Computer Games

Today launched the first Armenian Championship of Developers of Computer Games, organized by the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) and “Orange Armenia” CJSC. This championship aims to develop the sector of computer games design in Armenia, which in its turn will enable to create a new business environment, reveal and motivate new young talents, who will have the opportunity to bring to life their ideas and participate in the process of implementation of projects at the best IT companies.

Karen Vardanyan, the UITE Executive Director, said: “According to DISCOVERY Research Group, in 2010 the market of the Computer Games in the Russian Federation reached $540 million and that of the world market - $42 billion. We think that this is one of those domains not yet sufficiently researched and operated in Armenia. We believe that it’s high time to encourage the Armenian programmers to try themselves in this domain”.

Bruno Duthoit, Orange Armenia CEO, said: “The sector of computer games already has its stable role in the IT and telecommunication sphere. New is the sector of the game software and mobile applications, which, however, develops and grows dynamically. In this context, the Armenian content should not stay behind the world developments. We hope that this championship will enable us to reveal young talents and find the best ways for realization of their ideas”.

The championship will be held in 4 stages and will have 7 nomination categories: Best game, Scenario, Character, Design, Animation, Innovation and Best mobile application-game. During each stage the participants will present the computer games designed by them – game concept, graphics/design and technical capacities, for which they will be assessed by the jury. Up to the 3^rd stage inclusive, new participants can be registered, taking into consideration the fact that they will lose the points of the stages held before the date of presenting their applications for participation. In the 4^th final stage the participants will present the games in full and the best game will be selected and the winners of all nomination categories will be granted monetary awards.

On the day of the awards ceremony, from morning till evening, an exhibition will be organaized in the hall, located on the ground floor of the Orange Flagship at Northern Avenue, where will be demonstarted not only the games, designed by the participants, but also by other studios and producers, representing the domain of computer games.

In the frames of the championship courses in design of computer games will be held as well, which aim to provide opportunity to the beginners to gain professional knowledge in development, design and animation of computer games.
